Forex Brokers
Just as a real estate broker deals in properties and homes, a forex broker is someone who deals in foreign currencies trade.
Forex brokers are the people behind the buying or selling of orders by their foreign currencies trading clients. They match the client with someone else who is willing to place the opposite order as that of the client.
If no one is available or willing to make that transaction, then the broker himself will go against your position to make the order possible. This is due to the fact that forex trading is one of the most active and liquid markets in the world, so brokers have to continually provide an avenue of exchange for all the traders.
Trading forex involves the client buying and selling with the objective of earning a profit through the price rising or falling relative to their positions. Forex brokers earn their money by making a "spread" on the cleint's buying and selling price. For example if a client wishes to buy in at $1, the broker will probably set the buy at $1.03.
Basically when a client decides to open a position or make an order, the forex broker spreads the buying price by a certain amount of points or "pips" so they can earn their commission. In the above example, the broker is charging a spread of 3 pips to make the transaction happen. Most forex brokers have different spreads on each currency pair than the other.
But beyond being just an "order taker", a forex broker also advises you about the forex market. Technological advancements have put a damper on the role of a broker in recent years. Highly sophisticated software allow traders to go on their own, especially for the experienced ones.
For forex beginners though, the story is quite different. Beginners are often adviced to seek the guidance of forex brokers because the market is not a particularly friendly place for them to play in. There are just simply too many risks such that a beginner can get burned badly when left without guidance.
